The Real Housewives of New Jersey’s Teresa Giudice and her husband, Joe Giudice, had a rough day on Thursday when they were both sentenced to jail for bankruptcy, wire and mail fraud. Teresa, mother of four, will surrender January 5 to begin her 15-month jail term, and her husband will surrender when she is released. The judge in their case is allowing them to stagger their sentences so that their four daughters always have at least one parent with them.
While the moment couldn’t be easy for the reality stars, it didn’t take them long to step back out into the public eye. The couple stopped by the “clubhouse” with Bravo host Andy Cohen to film an episode of “Watch What Happens Live,” which will premiere tonight (so much for “Live”) and they appeared in public again on Sunday to film the reunion for the Real Housewives of New Jersey. Arriving separately, Teresa told cameramen she’s “Okay,” following the news that broke on Thursday, but Joe remained silent and had nothing to say to cameras. Despite her admonition that she’s fine, friends of the real housewife say she is anything but.
“She’s not doing well,” said a source close to the reality star. A source from inside the taping of the reunion told reporters, “Normally at a thing like this, she would be on fire. But it’s quiet. Everyone is being a little more cordial.” Another source says that their marriage is on the rocks and that it might not survive their prison terms.
“They were so distant. They barely interacted or even looked at each other. Joe had promised Teresa that he would….tell the court he was responsible for everything. Yet he didn’t live up to that promise. Instead, his lawyer said Joe needed to go to rehab for a problem with alcohol. Teresa is just stunned. This isn’t the man she married,” said another source who was at the couple’s sentencing.
