"It Is Possible to Live Well" With Mental Illness

Ever since Demi Lovato got help when it came to dealing with her battle with bipolar disorder in 2011, she’s been pretty vocal about the condition and how to live with it. In a new interview with People, the 24-year-old singer/actress let her fans (Lovatics) know that “it is possible to live well” with mental illness. “I’m living proof of that,” said Demi.

Demi shared that one of the most effective therapies for her was distracting herself with mobile games like Zombarazzie Adventure whenever she felt the urge to do something that could be harmful. She has also found comfort in working with mental health agencies. In 2015 she teamed up with Be Vocal: Speak up for Mental Health, in order to encourage others to share what their struggles are with mental health with doctors, family, and friends. (Seen below.)

“If you know someone or if you’re dealing with it yourself, just know that it is possible to live well,” said Demi. In the interview with People she described her her day-to-day life as a “work in progress” that involves support from her family, friends, and treatment team. “They’re there for me at any moment of the day and will be there to support me throughout my recovery,” she said.

“This partnership means a lot to my fans because so many of my fans are dealing with mental illness, whether it’s depression or bipolar disorder or even schizophrenia. I have fans that deal with all sorts of mental illnesses so this is very important to them,” said Demi.

In March of 2017 Demi will be celebrating five years free from her addictions. She shared saying, “Every day is a work in progress so hopefully I make it to 2017 with my sobriety. I take it one day at a time and for today I’m doing great.”
